Hayden Mellross will join DPH Motorsport to contest the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship following an announcement made by the team on social media earlier today.

It is understood that Mellross will race aboard a Yamaha YZ250F in the SX2 category, essentially replacing recently crowned Australian motocross champion Jed Beaton, who will miss the opening round of the supercross series in favour of preparing for the Motocross of Nations in Italy this month.

The 21-year-old recently returned to Australia after spending the year in America contesting the AMA Supercross Championship, before an injury ruled him out of majority of the Pro Motocross series.

Mellross recorded his best result at Anaheim’s season opener, placing 11th in the main event. Despite missing the final round, the New South Welshman completed the series 16th in the 250SX West championship standings.

The opening round of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship is scheduled to commence next weekend on Saturday, 17 September, at Jimboomba in Queensland.
